Like our wine-growing brothers in the Austrian Styria region, we have spent centuries studying the complexities of our terroir – the sense of place created by the interplay of soil, climate and topography.

We’ve been figuring out the best way to grow amazing grapes here since 69 a.C., and we’re constantly refining our vineyard as our knowledge and experience grow.

Year 69 a.C. First written mention of the city of Ptuj / Poetovio; archaeological discoveries of Roman amphorae and other wine vessels reveal that the culture of drinking wine was developed in this area very early on.

6th century Area is inhabited by Slavs who had no experience with wine.
8th century Franks conquer the city and revive winemaking.

977- 1555 Town with vineyards is owned by the archbishops of Salzburg, later the provincial prince; both are wine lovers and trained cellarmen.

12th century The Lords of Ptuj get feudal ownership over the Ormoške gorice and the central and eastern Haloze, which leads to the flourishing of viticulture.

"Our style is about allowing each varietal to shine."

– Andrej Grum, Founder and Owner

A premier region
The grapes ripen in the famous locations of the wine-growing region of Štajerska Slovenia, specifically in the sub-environments of Haloze and Srednja Slovenska gorica. The vineyards are spread over 300 hectares of steep and mostly terraced slopes on the left and right banks of the Drava river and reach an altitude of 400 meters above sea level. The varied terrain is mainly dominated by gravel and clay, while the lower layers are covered with a layer of marl. Freshness and fertility place the region at the very top of the world’s most suitable areas for viticulture.
